What is BOOM?

BOOM is a required mini-course for all 9th grade students to help them effectively transition to the Upper School academic culture. Students will be introduced to the essential habits of mind necessary to be a successful Upper School learner and to the tools and skills that will support their learning. Using the concept of developing a Brain Owner’s Operating Manual (BOOM) for Learning, students will learn strategies for developing healthy learning habits, managing stress, organizing information, and conducting effective research. This course will meet once per cycle for the first trimester, and students will be assessed using a Pass/No Pass grading standard.
