Every summer students are required to read books for their English, History, and Science classes, but we also strongly encourage students to choose books to read on their own. Please see below for a list of suggested fiction and nonfiction books of varied reading levels; the librarians, with input from students and faculty, have chosen these books for their engaging narratives and their literary qualities. All books below are available on our ebook platform, Sora. Just use your MICDS Gmail account to log in!
To develop your own summer reading list, you may want to seek recommendations from teachers, librarians, advisors, or friends; you may take some time to browse the shelves at a bookstore or the library as well. To cultivate the habits of reading, we suggest that you read every day and be willing to try different kinds of books until you find one that speaks to you. You may even want to read a book and discuss it as a family.
Best wishes for a relaxing summer, and happy reading,
Katie Voss and Colleen Williamson
